Do we need to redefine Disability? Clearly one size does not fit all.

Disability is a word undefinable! We are all dependent on someone or something. We are not able on our own. We need community and connection.

We are all experiencing some form of limitations in our lives. These limitaitons may be in any one or several areas? Why are we not then defined as disabled? We clearly are not able to meet these needs without assistance of another person? Disability definitions are inequitable definitions.

Spirituality is the missing link in holistic complementary interventions.

It has been noted that many practitioners are reluctant, afraid or maybe even incompetent in incorporating spirituality in the daily practice of occupational therapy with clients. Are we fully exploiting the clients potential in so doing or are we in fact detrimenting them?

How to be proactive in transistiong through life stages? A life management plan from childhood to adulthood for our community.

Life Planning - Planning LIfe.

It seems to me that we need to be prudent in creating a greater long-term plan that runs parallel to all life plans for the disabled community. We make plans for education, vocation and retirement. We need to have tools that enable those who are differently abled to make similar plans and adhere to them. This planning will ensure success as it sets expectations and how to meet them. In the area of disability and caregivers, a plan ensures little to no disruption in the event that a primary caregiver is no longer able to be present for the person. It decreases the risk of last minute scrambling associated with “not knowing” what to do. Let us make the transitioning plan part of our everyday care.
